Center for Advanced Imaging

The core element of RUMBA cognitive neuroscience research is found in the University Heights Center for Advanced Imaging which provides access to a 3T Siemens Allegra head-only scanner. Installed in January 2001, the scanner is one of three such scanners in the New York-New Jersey area; Princeton University and New York University being the other locations using the 3T Siemens for research. The scanner is extensively used by researchers at UMDNJ, Rutgers-Newark as well as other researchers with other institutional affiliations. The Center for Advanced Imaging also provides access to a PET scanner.

RUMBA EEG Lab

The RUMBA EEG lab provides two EEG systems for cognitive neuroscience research. An analog system by Neuroscan records 64 data from electrodes. A digital system by ANT Software records records data from 32 electrodes. Both systems are located in the Psychology Department of Rutgers.

Neuroimaging Data Analysis Software

One of the key components of RUMBA research focuses on the development of novel methods of analysis for neuroimaging data. The software being developed is open source and readily available for download.

RUMBA Supercomputing

In addition to the Rutgers-Newark computing facilities, RUMBA supports supercomputing resources including a SUN Enterprise Server, Ravana cluster of 27 Dual AMD Opteron nodes, as well as a collection of LINUX nodes, networked for parallel or stand-alone computation on large data sets. These resources are critical to the kinds of processing challenges presented by neuroimaging data.

Behavioral Testing

Access to the Psychology Department's computers, software, and subject pool provide additional resources to the lab.
